Having earned my certificate from this program, I was thrilled to join the Institute for Nonprofit Practice to help raise awareness for its programs. Onboarding during a worldwide pandemic and a national racial reckoning, I was challenged in ways I never imagined. Unfortunately my role was eliminated due to the pandemic, but in my short time there, I was able to:

  • Support national recruitment efforts for incoming Class of 2021, resulting in largest-ever, most diverse pool of applicants in Institute’s history

  • Oversee brand management on day-to-day elements (collateral, outbound communications) and more intensive projects (website overhaul, national expansion plans)

  • Craft content including social media, press releases, eblasts, testimonials, pitch decks, and donor collateral

Career Sabbatical
September 2019 - February 2020

Travel has always been a passion of mine. I realized the stars had aligned and I was in a once-in-a-lifetime position where I was established in my career, my loved ones were healthy, and the world was my oyster: I had to seize the opportunity. I quit my job to travel the world, experience new cultures, and gain some unique perspectives.

With a 40oz backpack and the support of my friends, family, and colleagues, I spent several months backpacking solo across Europe, Thailand, Vietnam, and Hawaii. Favorite experience? A scooter adventure with new friends through the mountains of Pai, stopping at a restaurant to eat noodles and dangle our legs over a cliff overlook restaurant. There were so many incredible opportunities on that trip, which I blogged about for my family and friends.

Director of Content
May 2018 - September 2019

This role offered me an opportunity within a significantly larger nonprofit and development/communications team. Having lived in downtown Boston, I saw the mission in action every single day and was constantly inspired by the staff, guests, and tenants. In my time at Pine Street Inn, I:

  • Executed marketing initiatives and content creation to support mission, recruiting, and fundraising efforts

  • Sourced speakers and success stories of Pine Street tenants/trainees for philanthropic efforts including written testimonials, video shoots, donor meetings, and major speaking events

  • Managed content creation for robust direct response program (print and digital) including newsletters, appeals, and letters from the President

  • Supported agency in 50th anniversary celebration year by providing updated marketing materials and brand guidelines for all departments

  • Partnered with development team to identify marketing supports for priority funding needs

  • Cultivated relationships with program staff to create a process/funnel of sharing potential success stories

  • Managed website overhaul including messaging refinement with all program areas and leadership teams

Director of Marketing & Communications
February 2015 - May 2018

This was my breakthrough into the nonprofit world. Applying my for-profit, PR agency work ethic and experience to rebuilding a vacated marketing department was an exciting challenge. Seeing the children every day, creating relationships with their parents and our teachers, and raising awareness for this important mission filled my cup in every way. During my time at Horizons for Homeless Children, I:

  • Supervised a marketing team of two to support an agency of 110+ in creative and messaging needs

  • Worked directly with parents to share their stories via print materials, video content and speaking events

  • Oversaw creative marketing efforts and budget for advertising, direct mail, collateral and video creation, and social media

  • Engaged multiple audiences including staff, Board of Directors, donors, volunteers, community partners, families in our programs, and potential hires to create content and spread awareness about child and family homelessness

  • Supported events team to execute agency’s four signature events throughout the year, taking lead on program and creative materials for each

  • Managed vendors and consultants for larger marketing/PR projects

  • Managed RFP process and launch of new website and email marketing suite, simultaneously

  • Won agency “Collaboration” core value award, as voted on by staff and executive team

Senior Account Executive
July 2013 - January 2015

Making the move to a women-led Boston agency was an inspiring step in my career. While it was a boutique agency, its client roster and impact was anything but. I was exposed to all types and sizes of clients, projects, and events. While I was at Version 2.0 Communications, I:

  • Managed clients and teams in higher education, green/clean tech and B2B organizations

  • Led several account teams ranging in size and focus

  • Developed strategic initiatives to help clients tell their stories in the most effective ways for each targeted audience

  • Coached C-level executives in communication strategies and best practices

  • Created monthly and quarterly communications plans to drive awareness and create buzz

  • Facilitated relationships with key reporters and editors through media tours and creative thought leadership campaigns

  • Drafted press releases and marketing collateral (infographics, blog posts, surveys, etc.)

  • Secured coverage in top-tier media outlets including TIME, Inc., Fast Company, AP, Wall Street Journal, and New York Times

Account Executive
September 2010 - July 2013

Fresh out of college, I was a sponge ready to launch my career. I landed a role at an energetic, growing public relations agency in Newburyport, where I was exposed to a number of different opportunities that helped establish my work ethic and develop my skills. In my roles at Matter Communications, I:

  • Served clients and teams in both consumer and business-to-business organizations

  • Coordinated and executed comprehensive traditional and social media initiatives, including company and product launches, product reviews, and thought leadership campaigns

  • Secured coverage in top-tier media outlets and blogs including Investor's Business Daily, Boston.com, Inc., CNET, TechCrunch, and Gizmodo

  • Drafted creative pitches, bylines, and reactive statements

  • Supported clients at media-facing events while managing social strategy on-site

  • Managed team building events for internal agency
